SUEZ optimises energy recovery from waste in Toulouse

Together with the Banque des Territoires and on behalf of the Syndicat Mixte Decoset, SUEZ is modernising the Bessières waste-to-energy plant and building a new plant in Toulouse to transform residual waste into energy for more than 1 million inhabitants.

This European reference project will integrate:
  • Optimisation of flows to maximise energy recovery
  • +50% electricity and +20% heat to cover 80% of the needs of the urban heating network
  • A reduction of 123,500 tonnes of CO2/year, thanks to more efficient facilities
This performance will be enhanced with connected SUEZ tools, including:
  • QualiWaste: AI and computer vision to improve waste sorting
  • ValoVisio: real-time control to optimise equipment availability
  • Qualisteo: monitoring and analysing consumption to adjust energy performance
With their optimised energy performance of 220 GWh of electricity and 360 GWh of heat, the 2 plants are setting new standards in terms of efficiency and decarbonisation.

With Bessières and Toulouse, SUEZ will be operating 31 waste-to-energy plants (UVE) in France by 2025, converting 3,500 tonnes of waste per year into renewable energy.

Designed to maximise energy recovery while reducing the environmental footprint, they embody a sustainable model serving the energy transition of territories.
