Arkema and OOYOO LTD., a Japanese start-up, signing the partnership
Revolutionizing CO2 Separation for Advanced Membrane Technology
Technologies for CO2 separation and recovery have gained enormous attention these days because of their potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and help protecting the planet. Once isolated and purified, CO2 can be processed downstream into several industrial chemicals such as carbonates, fertilizers, dry ice, and fuels. Gas separation technologies will thus play a key role in greenhouse gas reduction and the realization of a carbon-neutral society.
The start-up OOYOO is addressing CO2 capture through a proprietary membrane separation technology which is both space-efficient and cost-effective. Arkema and OOYOO decided to join forces in the development of this membrane technology, and signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU). ARKEMA will bring in its pioneering technology on polymer synthesis and material design – primarily focused on Arkema’s flagship Pebax® elastomers designed with tailored molecular channeling technology leading to high selectivity, chemical stability and excellent mechanical strength. OOYOO will concentrate on material selection, solution formulation, and high-performance membrane and module design, aimed at the separation, recovery, and reuse of CO2.
The collaboration between Arkema and OOYOO will accelerate performance improvements and cost reduction of OOYOO’s cutting-edge, self-developed separation membranes through new high performance materials developed and proposed by Arkema’s: Pebax® polyether block amide elastomers but also polyimide, PEKK, and PVDF resins.
