Renewable Power Supply for Paper Production

TotalEnergies has concluded a 10-year agreement to supply 800 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of renewable electricity to SWM, a major paper manufacturer with three plants in France, beginning January 2026. The contract delivers a constant, low-carbon power profile designed to match SWM’s operational needs across its sites at Papeteries de Saint Girons, PDM Industries, and LTR Industries.

Clean firm power approach and industrial application
Under the contract, TotalEnergies will source the electricity from about 50 megawatts (MW) of existing renewable generation assets in France, providing competitive and stable renewable energy tailored to the paper sector’s demand profile. This approach, referred to by the company as “Clean Firm Power,” combines renewable output with flexibility mechanisms to ensure delivery continuity. The volume supplied represents roughly half of SWM’s electricity requirements in France, supporting the company’s strategy to significantly reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2033 while enhancing cost predictability and sustainability of operations.

Context within TotalEnergies’ industrial decarbonization portfolio
This agreement builds on a series of long-term renewable electricity supply contracts TotalEnergies has arranged with other industrial and corporate clients. Examples include multi-year renewable contracts with global manufacturers and technology firms, reflecting a broader strategy to serve energy-intensive customers with bespoke clean energy solutions. These contracts form part of TotalEnergies’ integrated power business, which leverages both renewable resources and flexible assets to deliver reliable low-carbon electricity at scale.

Positioning within the competitive energy transition landscape
Long-term renewable power supply agreements—often structured as physical power purchase arrangements with flat delivery profiles—are increasingly used by industrial players to manage emissions and energy costs. In France, comparable contracts have been signed with firms such as Saint-Gobain for around 875 GWh over five years, and with STMicroelectronics for 1.5 terawatt-hours (TWh) over 15 years, illustrating a broader uptake of bespoke renewable energy sourcing in industrial decarbonization strategies.

TotalEnergies’ renewable capacity and strategic goals
TotalEnergies is scaling its renewable and flexible power portfolio to meet growing industrial demand and its internal targets for electricity production. As of late 2025, the company reported over 32 GW of installed renewable generation capacity in France and aims to exceed 100 TWh of net electricity production by 2030. The SWM agreement contributes to this expansion by securing long-term offtake for existing renewable assets and demonstrating the firm’s capability to provide customized renewable electricity solutions to energy-intensive sectors.
